Inspired by the dynamic rhythms and vibrant colors of Africa, these individually handcrafted glass pendants radiate the warm and generous spirit of its’ people. Each piece of Africa Glass jewelry is individually hand crafted of fused glass in a quality hand-smithed silver frame, resulting in a unique piece of art.
Fusing glass - getting it so hot it melts together - is an art with a long tradition (there’s evidence that even the ancient Egyptians created fused glass art). In our Africa Glass process, dichroic glass is fused with jet black base glass, with the result that certain wavelengths of light will either pass through or be reflected, causing a brilliant array of iridescenent colors to be visible. Due to variations in the firing process, individual results can never be exactly reproduced; each piece of fused dichroic glass is therefore unique . . . and thus no two pieces of Africa Glass art pendants are ever the same!
Once the talented artists of Africa discovered dichroic glass, their creativity knew no bounds. Carefully selected pieces of differently colored glass are cut to size and worked into bright or mysterious contemporary designs with roots in ancient African arts and mythology. Placed on a piece of black glass, the resulting creation goes into a kiln pre-heated to 840 degrees. After firing for 5 hours, the glass is fused together. The items are cooled for 24 hours, then individually hand finished. All rough edges are polished and the silverwork is meticulously completed to finish each Africa Glass pendant to unique perfection.
Each piece is given individual attention to ensure that only the very highest quality unique jewelry are offered to our valued customers.
